Rainforest-Help Appeal
Why should I support this charity appeal?
Three good reasons:
- 1. you could win two Around-the-World air-tickets!
- 2. everyone can help permanently protect our Rainforest for as little as $2 – that’s less than a burger or a cell-phone call
- 3. this appeal is a one-time event - with your help it will achieve lasting environmental benefits. It is not an annual appeal and the funds will not be ‘absorbed in expensive overheads’
Tararu Valley Sanctuary is a New Zealand nonprofit charitable trust. Money received from this Rainforest-Help Appeal will be used to permanently protect NZ Rainforest legally and physically – with a special pest-proof fence. Read more about the our Rainforest Action work
Based in Connecticut, USA, Earthwise Living Foundation is the non-profit foundation partner of Tararu Valley Sanctuary, New Zealand. [ EIN#26-0378910 ]. Earthwise Living Foundation has pending 501(c)(3) status. Our US Attourney has advised this will complete by October 2007. When granted by IRS, this charitable status will be retroactive to July 2007.
We welcome your questions or feedback. Although a significant part of the Rainforest-Help Appeal is automated, there are real people waiting to answer your emails and inquiries.
Inviting People
Can I invite all the people in my Email Address book?
Yes – but not directly, as only people invited through the website can be tracked and therefore can be entered into the Prize-draw. You can invite as many people as you like and remember - for every 2 people who make a donation you’ll receive an additional entry into the Prize-draw!
NO! Initially the invitation to support this Rainforest-Help Appeal was sent only to existing supporters and friends of Tararu Valley Sanctuary. These people then invite only their friends who they feel will be interested. If you have received an invitation - it is from a person you know! Anyone who receives an email from us can choose to 'opt out' and we will not contact you/them again'. Please do report anything that concerns you to Appeal staff.
How can I 'spread the word' about the Rainforest-Help Appeal ?
Once you have donated you can access the invite people page to enter your friends' email addresses.
You can also:
- • put a banner link on your webpage, MySpace or blog - you'll gain more Prize-draw entries for donors that have followed your banner
- • you can copy the text link and send this to friends on social networks like FaceBook - you'll gain Prize-draw entries this way too
- • or download and print this Rainforest-Help Poster (A4 or US) - you can put this up at your school, workplace, gym, or library...

Donations
Can my small donation really help the Rainforest?
No, not really. A small donation by itself won’t help much... BUT invite your friends and their friend’s friends and all our small contributions combined will have a lasting benefit - a temperate Rainforest Valley permanently protected!
How much of my money will actually help the New Zealand Rainforest?
Less than 10% of the funds raised will be used for fees, transfers and the prize-draw air-tickets. All other money which Tararu Valley Sanctaury receives will be used directly to protect New Zealand Rainforest.
Is the Tararu Valley Sanctuary a non-profit organization?
Yes. Tararu Valley Sanctuary is a non-profit charitable trust registered in New Zealand and can receipt financial donations for any donations given directly.
How can I get a tax-deductible receipt?
We can provide tax-deduction receipts to US & NZ residents. For residents of other countries, it will depend on your local tax laws whether a donation to this Appeal is tax-deductible.
If you desire a receipt for your donation please email: donations@rainforest-help.com with your details. Receipts will be sent before the 31 January 2008 or the 2007 financial year.
Is it really a charitable donation if I’m entered into a Prize-draw?
Yes. Your donation does not enter you in the prize-draw – rather it is your friend’s donations that provide you with Prize-draw entries.
Do I need to invite people at all or can I just make a donation?
You are welcome to just donate yourself. However, inviting your friends enables other people to help the Rainforest-Help Appeal too. And when 2 or more of your invited friends donate, you are entered into the Prize-draw!
Do I have to donate US dollars?
No! You can donate an equivalent amount to US$2 in any currency through PayPal or your credit card, bank deposit, or cash directly through one of many temporary postal offices. Perhaps you have spare overseas currency from a past trip? You're welcome to post this as your cash donation.
The Prize-draw
Is there an age limit to enter the Prize-Draw?
No. A person of any age may enter to win one of the Around-the-World air-tickets. However at least one of the people traveling must be a legal adult.
What are the air-tickets worth?
Each ticket is worth US$2,500 so the each prize is worth US$5,000!
In addition, Tararu Valley Sanctuary will provide transportation and a tour of the Sanctuary in New Zealand worth approx $300 per person.
If I can’t use my prize tickets – can I transfer the ownership of them?
Yes! These air-tickets are valuable and you are welcome to transfer ownership of one or both tickets. You can make a gift to a friend or even sell them - on Ebay, for example.
There will be a minimum of TWO tickets for 2 people to be won (that’s 4 tickets in total). As more people donate to the Appeal more air-tickets will be added. Keep an eye on the Appeal news for the updated number of air-tickets.
Why should I invite more people? Doesn’t it work against me if more people are entered in the Prize-draw?
NO! For every 2 people you invite who donate, you’ll gain an entry into the Prize-draw. So if 8 friends sign up, you gain FOUR entries. And the more people who participate, the more air-tickets there will be, so don’t worry – there will be lots of winners. It’s a win for our Rainforest, and it could be a win for you too!
I live in New Zealand – so can I use these air-tickets prizes?
Yes! You’re open to use the tickets however you wish. And we encourage you to arrange a visit the Sanctuary when it suits you.
Won’t all this air-travel cancel out any environmental benefits of the Rainforest work?
Tararu Valley Sanctuary encourages travelers to stay for longer periods as “residential volunteers” to directly help the forest through project work like tree-planting.
If you are concerned about the adverse effects of long-haul air-flights please do consider an extended stay at the Sanctuary, or the winners could even gift their air-tickets to international volunteers seeking scholarship assistance to stay and work at the Valley.
A lot of good can be achieved with an air-ticket and a powerful motivation – it’s all up to the individual traveler!
